What are Anti-wrinkle Injections?
Anti-wrinkle injections are popular non-surgical treatments used to diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Only prescription medications are used for treatment, and they must be administered by specially trained professionals.
How they work
Some anti-wrinkle solutions work by relaxing the muscles and softening dynamic wrinkles such as those across the forehead, at the corner of the eyes, and between the brows.
Others injections add volume below the skin, and are more effective on static wrinkles. They can also fill deep folds, such as nasolabial folds that run along the side of the nose and down the corner of the mouth.
What Does the Treatment involve?
The first step is to book a free consultation at Wellcare Medical. We will do a thorough evaluation, to determine which anti-wrinkle treatment is most appropriate for you.
Anti-wrinkle injections are typically administered in-office, and take about 30 minutes to complete. Ice or anesthetic cream can be applied 30 minutes prior to the procedure, to ease discomfort. Small injections are made in the targeted muscles with a very fine needle. Downtime from injections is minimal.
What to expect
There will be some slight redness at the injection site, but this usually fades within 1-3 hours. Makeup can be worn after treatment if desired. Results are usually seen after a week. However, it may take up to 2 weeks for the final results to show.
Are there any precautions that I need to take after treatment?
Normal activities can be resumed almost immediately. However, there are some precautions that can minimize side effects and ensure optimal results:
- Ice can be applied to the treated area to reduce any swelling and bruising.
- Avoid lying down or doing strenuous exercise for 4 hours after treatment.
- Avoid rubbing or massaging the treated areas for at least 24 hours after treatment.
Are Anti-Wrinkle Injections Safe?
Anti-wrinkle injections are generally considered very safe. The proteins used in some of the injections are commonly used in much higher doses to treat medical conditions such as muscle spasms, and lazy eye syndrome.
- Anti-wrinkle injections can prevent dynamic or static wrinkles forming
- The results are temporary, lasting for an average of 4 months. Injections therefore have to be repeated 2 to 3 times a year to maintain results.
- As anti-wrinkle treatment is a cosmetic procedure, there is no claimable Medicare rebate.
